Low-Cost Graphene-Based Composite Electrodes for Electrochemical Oxidation of Phenolic Dyes

Electrochemical removal of organic pollutants represents an attractive methodology in water depollution. The key challenges for researchers comprise finding simple, affordable electrode materials with satisfactory efficiency all ranges pollutant concentration. oxidation a mixture phenol-based dyes: bromocresol green (BCG), cresol red (CR), and thymol blue (TB), sulphate medium, at total concentration not exceeding 15 ppm, has been performed using simply prepared, low-cost composite electrodes, based on graphene nanoplatelets (GNP) metallic oxides (TiO2 SnO2) loaded stainless steel substrate: GNP@SS, SnO2/GNP@SS, TiO2/GNP@SS. Electrodes were characterised by XRD, FTIR, electrochemical techniques. degradation kinetics initial dyes was tracked UPLC GC-MS chromatography 6 h, current density 10 mA/cm2. analysis the products revealed oxidised aromatic compounds as main products, while TOC confirmed mineralisation extent range 30–35%. proposed mechanism involves attack OH-radical, oxidising agent, to hydroxyl oxygens dye phenolic rings. Obtained results provide useful information further development laboratory-scale industrial systems complete compounds.
